Tell us about your new position as investor relations manager for the Allegheny Conference on Community Development.
As the new investor relations manager for the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, I am working to bring together public and private leadership - under the umbrella of the Conference, one of the country's premier civic leadership organizations -to help improve the economy and quality of life in 10 counties of southwestern Pennsylvania. This is really an exciting opportunity for me.
I have been learning a lot about what the Conference is doing to guide the region forward with a particular focus right now on three key areas (which our regional investors have said are priorities to them): economy and community, infrastructure and the workforce.
In addition to working with the investor relations team, I am also working alongside colleagues of the Conference's affiliated organizations including the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and Pennsylvania Economy League of Greater Pittsburgh. We are working together to achieve long-term goals which will ultimately make the region a place where everyone can connect to robust live, work, play and learn opportunities.
What factors made you choose Point Park for graduate school?
I knew Point Park was the university for me once I met the professors and saw how accommodating the staff was. Also, the classes worked with my full-time work schedule. That was also a big factor!
Who has impacted you the most from the M.B.A. program?
Two individuals who left a huge impact on me were Professor Archish Maharaja and Graduate Support Specialist Sally Polnyj. I struggled in the beginning with my accounting class and Professor Arch went the extra mile to help me understand the material.
Sally helped me to schedule and gave me advice on which classes to take that would work with my schedule. She really helped me get my credits in line to graduate within a two-year window.
What are your career goals?
My career goals are pretty high as of right now. I hope within the next three years to become a director in development. Within the next 10 years, I would like to be on my way to an executive director position. I believe working for the Allegheny Conference and having my M.B.A. makes this 100 percent obtainable.
